New Amazon deforestation maps

Deforestation in the Amazon rainforestBrazil’s National Statistics Office (IBGE) has released new maps showing the extent and causes of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.  Mongabay.com reports that these maps show, for the first time, the extent of deforestation caused by agriculture, logging and infrastructure development.
